I have been a JET ALT for the maximum 5 years and thus my job finishes at the end of July. **While I would like to stay in Japan, and have looked into other teaching jobs, there are family reasons that make it a good time for me to head home, at least for a little while. **Yes, you can stay in Japan after you finish JET if you want to. Of course, you have to find another job to sponsor your work visa or you have …

You can’t teach with JET after 5 years, but you can get a different teaching job if you like and stay in Japan

I thought when you’re a JET and your job is done you couldn’t be a teacher there anymore. ’cause I would like to be there for longer than 5 years…maybe.

I’m studying at つくば大学 for the past year, actually getting ready to go home at the end of the month and I just started watching your JET vids. I def plan on applying as soon as I get home and your videos have been awesome in helping get ready for what I’m going to expect. I’m getting in, no matter what!

I agree – I’ve done a lot of traveling in Japan during my 5 years and seen a lot of great places. But Shimane feels like home now.

    私もジェイソンの一ファンとして心無い書き込みを恥じます。英語はよく理解できないけどジェイソンの人柄に好感をもち、楽しんでます。中学校でこんな英語の先生がいたら良かったと何回思った事か

Japan is a great place for people who like to challenge. You can experience a different culture in very safe environments with convenience.

You should not stick to just Shimane. There are many places in Japan which are as great as Shimane.

JETs do get placed in Hokkaido and most come to love it there. Too cold for me, but if you like cooler summers and winter sports, then it might be perfect for you.

Well – I might end up teaching, but it will most likely be HS History. I might to CSU San Marcos for my Masters/credential, so I’ll most likely try to find a place near campus.

haha I wonder if some JETs get placed in Hokkaido. That would be horrible. Anywhere on the main island is pretty easy because trains can take you almost anywhere.

What part of Sd do you live? I live in east county. Come teach college haha. I in some ways feel bad you have to come back. The kids and the culture is going to be so diffrent. These past 5 years here the kids have gotten worse. Its sad.

Good luck in your adjustment coming back to the states. I’m sure it’s going to be a little strange.

Just wanted to add that your videos are very inspirational with your experiences in Japan. I hope to see you continue vloging when you return to the states.

you have to wait 5 years to re-apply to JET and in 5 years I’ll be too old to reapply, so I’d get an ALT job with another school/company

  • 18 Crzeimasha // Mar 4, 2010 at 4:53 pm

    It’s only like 2 or 3 people.

  • 19 Tennyo29 // Mar 6, 2010 at 4:25 am

What the HECK is with all these Japanese people bullying you on your comment area? I mean, saying that it’s stupid you can’t speak Japanese after being there for 5 years? Bullying you asking you why you don’t have a job in your own country?
Don’t they get that some people want to work in Japan because they love the country? And, Jet PREFERS to bring in foreigners that don’t speak Japanese and actually ENCOURAGES that you don’t learn the language.
    Ignorant people….

  • 23 ForestBoo // Mar 15, 2010 at 1:47 pm

    jason san 無視してください。 この無能な奴は、不満を言えない代わりにここで八つ当たりしてるのでしょう。 情けない人間です

  • 24 GaijinGuide // Mar 16, 2010 at 4:26 pm

    この外国人排斥を止めてください。あなたの考え方が狭過ぎる。

  • 25 agijintedekei // Mar 20, 2010 at 2:33 am
